Dear Friends,

As our team wraps up the shortest month of the year, we are delighted to share a few short updates with you on what we've been up to. We enjoyed the snow, but are thankful for longer days and looking forward to warmer weather! We are gearing up for some of our great events like our Vision on the Green golf outing, and our Summer Picnic later this year. We can't wait to see many of you again!

Adaptive Gaming!

Noah and his mom recently came to the Assistive Technology Lab to try out our adaptive gaming setup. He was a natural and was quickly racking up points playing Forza Horizon 4 and Dragon Quest 11. Mom later shared that he couldn’t stop talking about how much fun he had gaming. Pictured are the following items: Xbox Adaptive Controller, RJ Cooper small joystick, andAbleNet Jelly Bean switches. Contact the AT Lab to set up an adaptive gaming consultation!

Career Exploration

Our employment team is keeping busy this week doing what they do best, helping people find jobs that are relevant and meaningful to them! We are working with Abby, who expressed interest in working in reception, so we have ventured to Ensemble Salon to check out hair/ nails/ beauty and Adorn West for tattoos/ piercing sales and scheduling.

Abby has really enjoyed exploring careers around her interests, and has also expressed interest in job shadowing a painter (painting walls/ rooms), cleaning in a hospital environment, and more.

New Housing for Folks with Disabilities

The housing team has been busy this month! Through a partnership with Sabin CDC, the Housing Access Program has multiple set-aside units in a brand new building in inner NE Portland. Over the past few months, we helped multiple participants through the lengthy application process. This month we have attended multiple leasing appointments with our participants, as well as toured their new units with them. Finally, the long-awaited move-in day is this week!As of February 28th, multiple Housing Access Program participants will move into their new homes in this beautiful new building! Additionally, Community Vision was consulted throughout the design and construction of the building, and as such, the building features many universal design elements that make it much more accessible than the average apartment building.
