Dear Community Vision Family, Happy April to each one of you. Our accomplishments, this past month have been as varied as our weather! We are proud to share a number of stories, and are grateful to each of you for your role in our work. Thanks for reading!

We were just delighted to welcome staff and board members to our office in early April for cocktail hour and to celebrate Joe Wykowski's transition towards retirement. We are grateful for all he has meant to CV and the people we support. It has been YEARS since we had the opportunity to all be together. It was great to see old friends catching up and new connections forming. We love our team! Click the pictures to the right to see the whole gallery.
| Support Across the Northwest | | | This month, our incredible team in the Assistive Technology (AT) Lab had the chance to work with a young 2-year-old child whose family brought them all the way from Montana. The child, who has both vision and motor impairment, was recommended to us by their speech therapist and our time together was meaningful for all. During the consultation, we were able to share ideas to help the young child communicate and interact with others. We even shared ideas for the speech therapist to try in their future sessions. The family was delighted and left more encouraged than before. It's just another example of the work done in the AT Lab, both with direct 1 on 1 services to families, and "teaching the teachers" who work directly with children! | | | | | |
| | If our update from our Employment Access is short this month, it's because they have been hard at work these past few weeks setting up and conducting interviews for so many folks in our program looking for work. They are excited to share that they've had 4 successful job placements in the months of March & April! | | | | | |

Choosing to live on your own after living under your parent's roof can be a daunting task. For Erin (name changed), the process was so much easier with the support of our Housing Access team to guide her through the process. We asked her what safe, affordable housing meant for her life, and this was her response: "Having affordable housing has put my finances in this amazing place where I can actually afford to pay off my students loans. Now I'm able to personally budget my rent and debt without relying on others for help." | | | | "Due to my disabilities I've struggled earning raises in my life, and now I'm living consistently thanks to subsidized housing." We're so happy for Erin and the steps she's taking to improve her life. "I quit drinking nine months ago. I wasn't able to be focused on my health or self-esteem in my previous unsustainable living arrangements, my sobriety is important to me now. " Affordable housing is so much more than a roof over someone's head. It's a place to call your own, and can be a step towards complete wellness. | | | | Hi People, Recently I had the opportunity to sit in on a discussing panel for the documentary I had the pleasure to be involved with called “In the Shadow of Fairview”. On March 14th, a group of over 100 people gathered to watch about an hour of the documentary on Zoom and asked questions about my experience living in the institution.
Two Grants for our AT Lab! | | | We are deeply grateful for the continued support from The Carol & Velma Saling Foundation ($25,000) and The Collins Foundation ($30,000). Their consistent support has been integral to growing our AT Lab to a program that served over 1,200 people last year. Their generosity also ensures that we can plan strategically to cultivate partnerships that build AT capacity and further accessibility across the Pacific Northwest! Last year we participated in 200 hours of partner collaboration. We are honored to have such committed and like-minded partners in our pursuit of a more inclusive and accessible world for people with disabilities.
